Getting important things done! The Obama administration probably didn’t realize what it was getting into when it started the “We the People” project online. The basis of which being that if enough people sign a petition, the White House must respond.
The first ridiculous success of this program wasn’t for any kind of healthcare reform or economic stability plan. Nope. The people wanted the United States government to build a Death Star.
The only beneficial outcome to this petition was a social marketing “win” from their clever, official response:
– The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We’re working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it.
– The Administration does not support blowing up planets.
– Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?
However, it’s important to keep in mind that this petition is on the official record for United States history. Not too classy for a country with much larger problems.
Now, another petition has garnerd over 273,000 signatures as of April 20th, 2014. The petition reads:
“We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nations youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society.”
The White House has taken a slightly more respectful turn with this one: “No Comment”.
