2003 Remember When…Stephen Harper gave that speech that John Howard gave two days earlier? Oh those silly politicians and their games.
Some fun was caused when a lazy speech writer, pressed for time, simply copied the Australian Prime Minister’s speech. This happened just before the Iraq War began back in 2003, resulting in Harper giving a speech that contained approximately 40% of word-for-word material from one that John Howard gave just two days earlier.
“In 2003, I worked in the Office of the Leader of the Opposition. I was tasked with — and wrote — a speech for the then Leader of the Opposition,” Owen Lippert said in a press release issued in May, 2003. “Pressed for time, I was overzealous in copying segments of another world leader’s speech. Neither my superiors in the Office of the Leader of the Opposition nor the Leader of the Opposition was aware that I had done so.”
Enjoy! Or cry. Whatever helps you sleep at night until we’re all blown to bits by the crazies in charge.
